video game

The gaming world was shaken when news of Hideo Kojima leaving Konami reached the ears of gamers and video game journalists. It is safe to say that the Metal Gear franchise will only be a husk of what it used to be without the vision and direction that Kojima supplied. That said, the Metal Gear titles that Kojima has left behind is still there to be played.

Here are some of the best Metal Gear titles of all time.

1.     Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain lets players approach a problem from different angles. Although the game was released amidst the firing of Kojima from Konami which resulted in an unfinished storyline, his vision and excellence can be seen all throughout the game. The Phantom Pain also features very few loading screens, and the motion capture is a landmark in video game technology. One can only hope what the game could’ve been if it was finished.

2.     Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty

After the success of Metal Gear Solid, fans were eagerly waiting for the second game, and it could quite possibly be one of the most anticipated games of all time. But the game still divides fans of the series some enjoy the messy approach whereas some denounce the game for its long ending. The story, on the other hand, was exceptionally ambitious as it predicted the prominence of social media in the future. A majority of the game is just the original game rehashed, and fans were frustrated by this.

3.     Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance was in development hell for a very long time, and it can be seen in the final output as the game doesn’t stand for anything even remotely Metal Gear-ish. But surprisingly, the game is extremely fun and goofy. Revengeance features Raiden from Metal Gear Solid 2. Raiden is a cyborg who can slice whatever that is in sight with her katana. Did I mention Revengeance has no stealth involved? As baffling as this sounds, the reason why the game is so much fun to play is that it is a hack and slash which isn’t made by Kojima.

4.     Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker

Peace Walker tells the story of the events that happened between Metal Gear Solid 3 and Metal Gear Solid 5. Although the game was released initially for the PSP, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker was eventually remastered for the PS3 and Xbox 360 with improved control and graphics. The best part about this title is the fact that you can recruit Hideo Kojima. Why wouldn’t you want to have Hideo Kojima in your team?
