Lunch Presentation:
The Art and Science of Making Quality Referrals and Strategic Connections

Presenter:
Patti
DeNucci
Referrals and
connections are the foundations upon which we grow our businesses. However,
most of us aren't taught -- and don't typically practice -- the true art and
science of making (and asking for) quality referrals and
connections in ways that will create a "win" for all involved. In this
presentation, Patti DeNucci will share stories, tips and secrets that can
help you:
 |
Become
more discerning about the referrals you make and wish to attract
|
 |
Create
strong, reliable networks of highly referable people and resources
|
 |
Recognize
and continually raise your own standards of professionalism and
performance |
An award-winning communicator and connector in Austin for more than
25 years, Patti DeNucci has been an advertising and PR account
manager, freelance writer, and marketing communications consultant. Today
she is the owner and principal of DeNucci & Co., an innovative referral
service that connects exceptional freelancers and consultants to clients who
need and value their expertise.
Throughout her life, Patti has observed, practiced, and honed the
art of making quality referrals and strategic connections. She has learned
over the years how "conscious connections" save everyone time and money,
strengthen relationships, build reputations, and help businesses and
individuals thrive. She is recognized by her peers as one of Austin’s most
well-connected, go-to professionals.

Lunch Presentation:
Tapping into
the Collective Wisdom at Work: The Power of Dialogue and Deliberation
Presenters:

Stephanie Nestlerode,
MSW,
and
Juli Fellows,
Ph.D.
Have you ever had
the opportunity to be part of a strategic planning process that:
+ made your
spirits soar?
+
challenged you to stretch into new ways of being, doing and learning?
+ enhanced
organizational vitality and morale while better serving customers?
Organizations that have journeyed into this territory
understand that it’s all about tapping into the wisdom of an organization to
inform choices that are made. They have discovered that wise choices
involve holding two key intentions – an intention to learn and an intention
to serve the common good (extending beyond the organization’s walls). What
does this look like operationally? What skill supports these intentions?
The skill is hosting a different kind of conversation—one
that fosters strategic learning. These conversations foster community,
create shared meaning and result in wise choices. We will offer a framework
for these conversations and participants will have the opportunity to
practice two key ingredients – inquiry and reflection. After the practice,
we’ll share experiences and consider implications for fostering
conversations that matter in the work place. We will also be sharing an
upcoming opportunity in Austin to learn more about dialogue and
deliberation.
Stephanie
Nestlerode,
MSW, has been a strategic planner for over thirty years in settings ranging
from multi-hospital systems to academics, government and non-profits. She
is founder of Omega Point International, Inc. (www.omegapoint.net).
The consulting firm’s mission is nurturing Leadership for the Common Good by
providing learning opportunities that inspire, guide, and cultivate skills.
In her words, “the future we create is the legacy we leave our children."
Juli Fellows,
Ph.D., has been an independent organizational consultant for 15 years (www.docfellows.com
). Her specialty is designing and facilitating collaborative meetings,
including large public policy processes. She is also an experienced
mediator. Two years ago, Juli became the skills coach for the Leadership
Austin Essential class and introduced dialogue as a critical leadership
skill. It’s been a transformative experience for many of the class
members.

Lunch Presentation: Contemplative Leadership: Learning
to See with Egoless Clarity
Presenter: Patricia Speier D.Min.
What does it mean to be a
contemplative leader? The word contemplative often conjures up visions of
silent monks in monasteries. But contemplative actually means seeing clearly
through all the assumptions, judgments, and opinions that regularly cloud
our vision. Contemplative leaders are lucid, attentive, vulnerable and
disciplined. In this presentation we will look at how these characteristics
can help leaders live more congruent lives, close the gap between
information and wisdom, and begin to see with egoless clarity.
The self-awareness that enables a
person to see past their own ego and live out their values in the workplace
make them a better person and thus a more effective leader. It also tends to
improve one's ability to communicate their vision to those they work with
and to lead from a place of wholeheartedness and wisdom.
Please join us and invite others you
think might enjoy this presentation.
Patricia Speier, DMin, is Executive
Director of the Seton Cove. She is a spiritual director, teacher, and
retreat facilitator who specializes in the use of literature and writing for
spiritual growth and ethical development. She is passionate about the
connection between Spirituality and Leadership and has developed a year long
intensive for leaders in all fields ( business, medicine, law, religion,
non-profit) which is now in its fifth year. Speier is a 2008 DMin graduate
of Perkins School of Theology and a graduate of the Episcopal Theological
Seminary. She has studied spirituality at the Pecos Benedictine Monastery in
New Mexico and Integral Spirituality with Ken Wilbur. She has also practiced
Big Mind work with Genpo Merzel Roshi. She is an Associate Professor of
Pastoral Ministries at the Seminary of the Southwest.

There has
been much buzz lately about the importance of following your passions and
doing what you love. Everyone from Oprah to Donald Trump to Donny Deutsche

unfulfilled and dissatisfied. Are you experiencing the 20% or the 80%?
Aligning your work with your passion has the power to transform your life!

Lunch Presentation: Why
Horses - What Equine Experiential Learning Can Teach Us About Authentic
Leadership
Presenter: Julie Puentes

Lately,
much has been written about the importance of authenticity and presence in
regards to leadership development. Experiential Learning is a very effective
way to introduce these concepts which are notoriously difficult to define
and teach. Recently, horses have been recognized as some of our most
effective teachers in the process of training authentic and compassionate
leaders.
In this
presentation, we will explore the ways horses can help leaders develop their
emotional intelligence by increasing self-awareness and understanding their
impact on others. Because they are prey animals, horses have a highly
developed ability to respond to the most subtle changes in stance,
intention, and even breathing of other horses or predators. Remarkably, this
is an ability they can easily transfer to human beings.
They also
make clear how much of our communication with others is non-verbal. Julie
will share some of her personal insights and experiences with horses and
what it has taught her and her clients about leading from the heart.
Our
Speaker's Bio:
Julie
Puentes is a leadership and personal development coach who is devoted to
helping leaders understand how self-awareness and authenticity are crucial
to exceptional leadership and job performance and how this can have a
significant positive impact their professional and personal relationships.
Julie obtained her Master of Science in Organizational Leadership and Ethics
from St. Edwards University and has a Bachelors degree in Psychology. Having
combined her life-long fascination and knowledge of horses with her
experience, Julie is currently enjoying her ideal career. As owner of
"Bridges Solutions"
(www.leadershipbridges.com), Julie has experience coaching and
consulting entrepreneurs and organizations such as Heineken U.S.A and Green
Mountain Energy. She also studied with "Leadership Outfitters" for over a
year perfecting her skills using horses in leadership development and
coaching.

Lunch Presentation:
"Five ways to make a living: Traditional,
Entrepreneurial, Non Profit, Self- Actualization, and Visionary."
Presenter:
Diane
Carroll
At this month's luncheon, Diane Carroll, Founder and CEO of The
Maverick Center, will present for us "Five ways to make a living:
Traditional, Entrepreneurial, Non Profit, Self-Actualization, and
Visionary."
%20headshot.jpg)
When thinking about ways to make a living many individuals generally
consider only two categories. They consider either working for someone else
or entrepreneurship. Some try both. Others have gone the Non Profit route.
Very few consider becoming a visionary. There are (at least) five ways to
make a living. This talk will broaden the scope to making a living that will
likely include several or all of the following models: the Corporate Model
(working for someone else), the Entrepreneurial Model (traditional American
Dream), the Visionary Model, and The Maverick Center's proprietary
Self-Actualization Business Model (reaching for one's full potential while
balancing the real you in the real world).
We will discuss some flaws of each model and discuss in more detail the
Self- Actualization Business Model.
Afterwards, our discussion will be about how to look at the models
differently and understand how others are successfully blending the five
ways to make a living.
Diane Carroll is the Founder/CEO of the Maverick Center, LLC. Diane
is a "design a life and living" specialist, teaching adults how to live on
their own terms. The Maverick Center's "Design a Maverick Living" is the
process of creating, changing or building ways of making money that closely
aligns with the owner's value system and integrates their multiple ideas,
goals, and reasons for living. Diane founded the Maverick Center LLC (www.MaverickCenter.com)
and started teaching youth/parents along with adults their
faster/safer/cheaper make a living practices and planning. Her company works
with leaders on quadruple bottom line (work that produces positive results
in people, profit, planet, and purpose).
Diane co-authored a book with Brian Tracy, Mark Victor Hanson, Robert
Middleton and a host of other gurus entitled: "Create the Business
Breakthrough You Want: Secrets and Strategies from the World's Greatest
Mentors" which has been endorsed by Dr. Stephen R. Covey, author of
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and Ken Blanchard, co-author of The
One-Minute Manager.

Lunch Presentation:
Practicing Appreciative Awareness at Work
Presenter:
Henry Novak
·
How are you showing up for work?
· What kind of stories is your mind unconsciously telling you about
yourself?
· How can you quickly seize upon the affirmative, the positive that
exists as potential, in every moment?
Our February speaker, Austin attorney, scholar, philosopher, and social
historian Henry Novak, spent seven years as an aggressive assistant
U. S. attorney establishing a formidable track record prosecuting
high-profile, white-collar fraud criminal cases against corporate executives
and public officials. A profound spiritual awakening in his late thirties
opened his heart and mind to deep inquiry into the purpose of his life, the
nature of the material world, and the dynamics that motivate the conduct of
people in the business world.
Among his discoveries in the following twenty-five years of professional
life was that environments - the situations, circumstances, and conditions
that we encounter in our daily business affairs - are neutral, that life
waits for us to impregnate it with meaning, and we do just that with the
manner in which we interpret and understand our experiences. We are
unconsciously programmed to see the world in ways that are unique to each of
us. From the day we are born, our mind begins to conceptualize our memories
and experiences into a "story" that very soon establishes our individuality
and determines who we show up as in the world. How we show up in the
business world determines the results we produce.
Join us as Henry blends wisdom, spiritual understanding, positive
psychology, and legal insight in sharing with us how the unconscious scripts
that direct our lives can be reframed into powerful, affirming stories that
can be used to cultivate the practice of being present for work with a
heart-mind that is open, nimble, and quick to appreciate the positive,
generative potential inherent in the present moment-the practice of
"Appreciative Awareness".

Lunch Presentation: "The Judgment Window": A Tool for Seeing and Speaking
to the Heart of Another
Presenter: Michael
Skye
Business success in the 21st century requires organizational cultures that
encourage and experience increasing levels of trust, transparency and
authenticity. Because work is, at its core, a fundamental human endeavor,
leaders need to master tools that empower and sustain high-powered
relationships.
Yet, most of us live in cultures, both at home and at work, that are full
of criticism and judgment. We perceive criticism, we anticipate judgment and
we beat ourselves up before others can make us wrong. We all naturally and
reflexively create walls of judgment when faced with the negativity of
criticism.
Come join us as
Michael Skye,
founder of VisionForce walks us through "The Judgment Window", a tool that
brings down our walls of judgment and defense so that people can feel truly
seen and honored.
As Michael demonstrates this simple yet powerful relationship tool, you
can learn how to:
- Breakdown the walls that create distance between you and your co-
workers, your family and other important relationships.
- Shift from judgment to extreme compassion with anyone, instantly.
- Transform a good relationship into a powerful alliance.
- Turn your critics into allies.
Please join us for this stimulating and transformational experience.
Michael Skye, Founder and Chief Visionary Officer for Austin's own
VisionForce, works with a new breed of impassioned change agents,
entrepreneurs and visionary leaders from around the world who are giving
their lives to stand for all of humanity. His visionary leadership training,
VisionForce Boot Camp, is part of the
One Million Visionaries Campaign. Boot Camp and the on-line course,
Visionary Mind Shifts, are powerful wake-up calls for those who are ready to
move from taking positions to making a stand. It is being applauded by many
local leaders, such as Richard Halpin of American Youthworks, Jeannette
Peaten of Big Austin, Brandy Clark of Austin Eco Network and Nogie King of
Wisdom at Work.
