Evolving Your Relationship with Money

The world spends a lot of time thinking about money. We earn it, save it, spend it, try to manage it, worry about it, hold our breath about it and eventually make up stories about what it all means. Even though many of us are wholeheartedly engaged in wisdom practices, most of us still FEEL challenged by the practical and emotional demands of money.
Join us for this interactive presentation using a body-centered approach to explore the internal effects and external results of our own stories about money. Then experience a new way of BEING with money that allows you to graduate to a profoundly satisfying relationship with this ubiquitous stuff called money.
Nogie will introduce an evolutionary process that takes us back to the original purpose of money (to foster human relationships) and moves us forward to connect us to our deeper truth (the currency that really matters).
Come learn:
- Why abundance is not the answer.
- How to use money as a spiritual practice.
- How our bodies are the roadmap.
Nogie King has been designing and delivering profound experiences for over 15 years. She is currently the Executive Director for Wisdom at Work and is writing her first book entitled The Currency of Connection: Evolving Your Relationship with Money.

Blind spots – those nasty little perspectives and behaviors seem to show up at the root of most of the situations in which we find ourselves stuck or frustrated.
You cannot fight something that you cannot see, and the hidden enemy inside your ranks is more damaging than the 10,000 that may be outside your gates. The enemy we are talking about here is our blind spots and self-deception - those false views, and opinions we hold and we accept as objective reality. This "reality" is the basis from which we determine if we are happy or sad and safe or threatened. This personal reality is the basis for how all of our decisions are made, how we lead and influence, and the impact we make on those around us. They often replicate themselves in the environment by directly, but unconsciously, inviting similar deceptions in those with whom we interact, further impacting the relationships and results we seek in virtually every aspect of our personal and professional lives.
Come join us to learn how to recognize and transcend some of your invisible blind spots that keeps you from living, loving and leading to your potential!
Our speaker, Daniel Morman is an executive coach and consultant specializing in leadership development, achievement, meaning and fulfillment. He has led many successful projects in Global Leadership, Strategy Development, High Performance Teams, and Change Management for companies such as Cisco, IBM, Hitachi, Chevron-Texaco, and Microsoft.
He lives in Austin, Texas with his wife and two sons.

Our brains have two segments. The left side is logical, rational and verbal, and it controls our dominant writing hand. The right side is intuitive, imaginative and emotional. It’s been called our Inner or Essential Self, and the bossy Left Brain keeps it under wraps most of the time.
Imagine being able to tap into your true feelings: your creativity, your inner peace, even your body and your childhood. Through alternate handwriting (AH), you can! Alternate handwriting is the practice of writing a question with one’s dominant hand, then putting the pen or pencil in the other hand and allowing it to respond. Which it will.
Our right brain is the diamond within each of us. Connecting to it through AH guides you to:
•learn new things about yourself
•feel compassion for yourself and others
•unlock your creativity
•find someone you can trust implicitly
•set yourself on the path to inspiration and rejuvenation
Discover how the truth is within you, literally at your fingertips. Learn to use the power hidden in your “other” hand and open yourself to amazing insights.
Betty Rogers, BA, MPA, is an Austin artist and environmentalist. A published writer, she’s been a public affairs advocate for air quality and helped nurture the planting of thousands of trees across Texas. She’s seen alternate handwriting yield incredible results in her sessions with private clients and in the seminars and workshops she presents. Our work life is a container for maturity, which is actually the core function of spiritual practice - to grow up and wake up without limit. We all have to find a way to take our place, and our work can be the setting in which we test our resolve to discover who we truly are and what we were made for in this world. This presentation will be a Zen Buddhist's perspective on this path of maturity - the path of growing up and waking up - the spiritual path of the human being.
Flint Sparks is a psychologist with over 30 years experience in psychotherapy. He is also a Zen teacher and priest who leads retreats worldwide. His home base is Appamada, a center for Zen practice and inquiry. 4th Friday Luncheon for March - Using the Four Questions

Presenter: Tova JohnPress
Topic: Using "The Four Questions" of Byron Katie to Enhance Your Experience at Work
Date: March 26, 2010
The Work is a simple yet powerful process of self-inquiry created by Byron Katie, speaker and bestselling author of Loving What Is. It consists of four questions and “turnaround” statements designed to question any thought that disturbs your peace, inhibits your creativity and causes you to suffer. The Work is used by leading-edge business leaders, mental health practitioners, coaches, educators, and by millions of people worldwide as a way to move from confusion to clarity. Through inquiry, people who have spent years combating stress, fear and anxiety discover a profound shift in consciousness, a deep sense of peace and the ability to approach problems with a clear mind.
In today’s presentation we look at The Work as it applies to the thoughts, beliefs and judgments we hold about others that cause us to feel distressed and dissatisfied at work. The Work provides us with a concrete method that, when applied, helps us resolve our feelings of frustration, isolation and overwhelm. For example, through the process of inquiry we begin to question, “Who is truly responsible for the frustration I feel at work?” In the old paradigm we look “out there” to something or someone that needs to change, and it is rarely “us”. In the new paradigm we begin to notice, “I am the problem and if something needs to change, it may be me.” Participants are invited to experience the power of The Work by witnessing Tova’s facilitation of others, as well as with direct practice.
Since finding The Work in 2002, Tova has made The Work her daily practice. She says, “I now know that I hold the key to my own freedom…but only all of it! If I look to people, places and things around me to find happiness I am insane. The way out is in.” Tova says anyone with an open mind can do The Work and everyone attending today’s presentation will leave with the tools necessary to apply The Work in their professional lives. Tova graduated from The School for The Work of Byron Katie in March 2009, hosts monthly Inquiry Circles in her home and facilitates The Work with others as an integral part of her Personal Leadership Coaching practice. She lives in Austin, TX with her husband, Tim and daughter, Ally.
4th Friday Luncheon for February- Being Wise at Work: A Whole-Brained Approach

Presenter: Jeremy Solomons
Topic: Being Wise at Work: A Whole-Brained Approach
Date: Friday, Feb, 26, 2010
"We only use 10% of our brains" is a much-quoted statistic. Even though it has been shown to be largely untrue, it is certain that most of us do not use all of our brains at work, particularly not our more creative right hemisphere. This is hardly surprising given the more logical, linear, "left-brained" educational and organizational systems that most of us have been part of. This highly interactive and practical session – inspired by the whole-brain writings of Herrmann, Pink, etc. - will help WAW members understand the new whole-brained world of work we live in and to begin using all of their brains at work, school and beyond.
Please bring something that you think is well- or poorly-designed. It should preferably be something you already own and that you can easily carry!
Jeremy Solomons is the UK-born and USA-naturalized founder and president of Jeremy Solomons & Associates, which helps current and future leaders to connect and communicate effectively across all cultures - national, organizational, professional and individual. 4th Friday Luncheon for January - Changing the Way the World Looks: Transformation Through Deep Insight

Presenter: Barry Curtis
Topic: Changing the Way the World Looks: Transformation Through Deep Insight
Date: Friday, Jan. 22, 2010
Like a four year-old with a loaded 44-magnum, we can be innocently dangerous to ourselves and others with something as subtle as a "loaded" tongue. To interrupt the flow of life, we simply need to be unconscious. To give life, however, takes conscious awareness and an understanding of who we are and how we operate as human beings.
In this month's presentation "Changing the Way The World Looks:Transformation Through Deep Insight", Barry Curtis combines the cutting edge discoveries of cellular biologist Bruce Lipton Ph.D., the timeless truths of the past, and his own insights into human behavior into a presentation that will profoundly change the way you look at yourself and at others. The results: a change in the way you interact with the world around you and ultimately, a change in the way your world looks. You will walk away knowing how to give life energy to yourself and others instead of taking it away.
About Barry Curtis:
Credential-less, incredulous, witty and insane,
his journey he's taken in the less-traveled lane.
A banker, a printer, a preacher and teacher
a non-profit's builder yet always the seeker.
He speaks from his heart and out of his mind;
the gold he's uncovered and managed to find.
Wisdom and insight he skillfully unfurls and
with humorous aplomb he changes one's world.

Presenter: Michelann Quimby
Topic: Cultivating Positive Politics in Organizations
Date: Friday, March 27, 2009
What comes to mind when you consider organizational politics? Do you think of backstabbing, gossip, and self-interest, or do you think of alliance building, interdependence, and trust? At its core, political power is the ability to influence behavior through understanding the forces that motivate people to act. The possibility of this power being misused is obvious even without the cautionary tales of corporate fraud and corruption that have plagued the news over past decades. So how do we cultivate moral political power? In this session we'll discuss ways to recognize the three types of political power, and how to cultivate ethical, values-based influence at work.
